3rd Thursday Summer Concert Series
Culpeper Downtown
The 3rd Thursday Summer Concert Series, sponsored by Culpeper Renaissance, Inc. a downtown development organization, is quickly approaching. New for 2008 the series will begin in May with an additional concert. The series will continue through the months on June, July & August in downtown Culpeper directly in front of the Depot on Commerce Street. This year’s performances will include several musical genres sure to be enjoyed by all.
Beginning the festivities on May 15 one of the most sought after bands in the D.C. – Baltimore area Time Machine will be performing. Time Machine is a high energy 10-piece variety band that features rock, pop, funk, motown and beach music sure to get you on your feet. This fantastic band never fails to draw the highest praise for its performances. Eli Cook blues acoustic sensation, who has been featured at the Kennedy Center and opened for the likes of legendary blues artist B.B. King, will open the show for Time Machine.
Join us June 19 for Randy Waller & The Country Gentlemen recent winners of the 2008 WAMA (Washington Area Music Association) award for Bluegrass Band of the year. Bluegrass has always been built on a solid foundation of old and new, but scarcely in such a lucky combination as with Randy Waller. Being the son of Country Gentlemen-legend Charlie Waller he brings a great name and a family heritage into his music. Randy has always been the greatest fan of his dad and is an appropriate replacement as lead singer and guitar player. He is on tour with Mark Delaney, David Kirk, and Gary Creed (the 'new' Country Gentlemen). Local favorites the Dark Hollow Bluegrass Band known for their great three-part harmony and traditional styling will open for The Gents.
July 17 The Janitors based out of Virginia Beach will light up the stage. Their tight blend of rhythm & blues, 60's soul, 70's funk, country, classic rock and current top 40 dance keep people of all ages dancing from the first note 'til the last.
Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs famous for his songs “Stay”, “Little Darlin’”, and “May I” will be in Culpeper August 21. The song “Stay” is a classic rock n’ roll and R&B number one hit and saw a resurgence in popularity in 1987 where it was used in the movie Dirty Dancing. Maurice is an inductee into the South Carolina Music and Entertainment Hall of fame and the Beach Music Hall of fame in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. A mainstay in the beach music circuit this is one show you won’t want to miss. My
