The Piedmont Publishing Group recently added Leonard Banks as a graphic designer/reporter.
“We are pleased to announce that Leonard Banks has joined the Piedmont Publishing Group as graphic designer/reporter,” said Tom Spargur, Publisher of the Culpeper Times.
Leonard will work at the Culpeper Times location and be added to the Culpeper team to cover local community news in and around our region.
Banks has worked at several newspapers, including the Journal Press, where he began as a graphic artist in 1995, and was later promoted to sports editor.
Originally from Lynchburg, VA, Banks attended Howard University.
His passion of news coverage extended to Washington, DC, by covering Broadway plays, such as the Gin Game [Charles Durning, Julie Harris], Fences [James Earl Jones, Leslie Ugams], Lion King, and numerous others over a period of 20 years.
In addition to working for the Washington Redskins public relations office, Banks also spent 15 years on the sidelines as a photographer.
His most cherished moment in journalism was serving as Aretha Franklin’s personal photographer. During the 2008 Presidential inauguration, Banks, with his wife by his side, photographed the legendary singer as she left the Four Season’s Hotel, in Washington, DC., to sing before the world.
