Police use social media to engage with community
The Culpeper Police Department continues efforts to improve the police service that is provided to community members and also advance further into 21st century policing initiatives.
Recently the department began using Facebook and has plans of creating a Twitter account in the
next couple weeks. The department is urging both residents and tourists to engage with the
department on their social media pages.
The department’s presence on social media provides so many benefits to not only the agency, but
also the citizens. Utilizing social media allows the department to positively engage with citizens,
solve crimes, issue incident or traffic alerts to citizens, and also keep everyone informed about
department happenings. The social media presence will allow the department to increase public
trust and transparency with its community members.
“We are hoping to reach a bigger audience and also disseminate information much quicker using this technology” says Chief Chris Jenkins.
The Culpeper Police Department is encouraging all residents and even those visiting the
Culpeper area to view their Facebook page for the latest updates. The Facebook page can be
accessed at https://facebook.com/CulpeperPD.
Any questions related to the department’s social media pages should be directed to Lieutenant Jeff Dodson at 540-829-5526.
