CULPEPER â?? With roads already snow-covered, the Virginia Department of Transportation advises motorists that conditions are expected to worsen this afternoon, when a changeover to freezing rain will make roads icy and unsuitable for driving.
VDOT crews are working around the clock to plow accumulated snow and apply salt and abrasives. Freezing rain will add to their challenge and motorists should expect that even treated roads will remain slick with ice.
Road conditions are currently reported as follows:
· Interstate 64 and I-66 â?? Clear with some lingering patches of snow.
· Primary highways â?? Mostly snow-covered. Primary roads in Greene and Madison counties are slightly improved, but still have slick spots.
· Secondary highways (numbered 600 and above) â?? Snow-covered and in many cases unplowed.
