Emmett Hanger: â??Nothingâ??s Changedâ?¦â??
â?¦and thatâ??s the problem. In his latest radio ad, State Senator Emmett Hanger reassures the voters in the 24th district that heâ??s still the same man we elected to Virginiaâ??s Senate nearly 20 years ago. Before he was in the Senate, Hanger was in the House of Delegates as well. He has had a 35-year career in Virginia politics. From year to year and election to election, Hanger talks to the same set of voters that constitutes only a small percentage of his large and diverse district.
I do not doubt that Hanger has good intentions to serve the people of the 24th district. But I believe that his actions during his current term, including voting with Democrats to expand Medicaid in Virginia, reflect the fact that is his out of touch with his conservative constituents. Hanger has not faced a challenge from within his own party since 2007, and it has made him complacent. I cannot remember the last time Mr. Hanger attempted to contact me personally to discuss the issues troubling our district.
Augusta County Supervisor and challenger Marshall Pattie, on the other hand, has been working overtime to speak to as many people as he can before the primary on June 9th. I believe that Mr. Pattie truly cares about the issues that concern each and every resident in this district, regardless of whether they vote or not. His platform of encouraging expansion of Internet access rural Virginia, protecting our farmers from the EPA, and fighting to reduce the cost of adoptions will actually improve the lives of citizens in our senate district.
The people of the 24th district deserve to have a representative in the Virginia Senate who makes the effort to reach out and listen to them.
Marshall Pattie is the best choice. Vote Marshall Pattie for Virginia State Senate on June 9th.
