Beyond the Mask to debut in Culpeper at local theater

â??Beyond the Mask,â? set in Revolutionary America, is an action packed story of intrigue and redemption.

The movie trailer promises explosions, tension filled encounters between British Soldiers and Revolutionary Patriots and a hint of romance. But at its core the movie is about spiritual redemption and the Christian faith.

â??It is a family film,â? said director and co producer Chad Burns.

Perhaps as interesting as the plot itself, the redemption of a British assassin in America, is the making and distribution of the movie to area theatres. is the distributor. According to the company website, distribution is based on need. If a theatre sells enough tickets in advance the film is shown. If not then it is not. More than a thousand theatres are expected to open with the film April 6.

At the writing of this article, 136 tickets had been sold for Culpeper ensuring the April 6, 7:30p.m. screening at the Culpeper Stadium Four Theatre on Main Street. Tickets are still for sale and can be purchased online at

The independent distribution system has taken Hollywood by surprise, the most notable example of this type of distribution being â??The Passion of the Christâ? which relied heavily on distribution outside regular movie distribution routes.

Nina May, a Rappahannock resident, and associate-producer of the film, is the â??Theatre Captainâ? for the screening in Culpeper.

She said Burns approached her four years ago about supporting the film. â??We really liked it,â? she said and agreed to get involved.

The film distribution company,, is new but she said they were easy to work with and â??itâ??s kinda neat to have a local PR formulaâ? like the one used by Gathr,â? May said.

She said she enjoyed working on a film that did not embarrass viewers as many Hollywood productions do today.

â??We need to support these films if we want to see more,â? she said of Beyond the Mask and other films produced by the Burns Brothers Studio. Beyond the Mask. (PG)
