Culpeper traffic stop yields drugs, weapons and more

At about 2:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014, Deputy Joshua Haught stopped a southbound vehicle at the intersection of Madison Road and Willis Lane, Culpeper, for driving behavior he observed after he encountered it at the 15/229 intersection. A search of the vehicle, with the assistance of Deputy Derek Emmel and his K9 partner, Kato, yielded marijuana and a firearm. Witness interviews produced information for a search warrant to be obtained for the driverâ??s- Devon L. Johnson, 25- Rixeyville Road residence, where seven more ounces of marijuana, with a street value of about $2000, was located, and over $6000 in cash was seized, in addition to the firearm from the traffic stop.

Johnson was arrested for possession with the intent to sell, give, or distribute more than 0.5 ounce, but less than 5 pounds of marijuana (a class 5 Felony) and a concealed weapon violation, and he was committed to Culpeper County Jail with a $3000 secured bond. Passenger Candace F. Wines, 21, of Culpeper, was arrested for obstructing justice and given a $3000 unsecured bond for the class 1 misdemeanor.
