STILL TIME TO REGISTER FOR KINDERGARTEN
Slightly less, but School Board has a budget
Finally. The School Board of Culpeper County Public Schools approved the FY’15 Revised Operating Budget of $79,381,127 after learning that revenue from the state budget is not what they anticipated. The proposed budget, originally at $81,347,544, was shaved by eliminating such school division needs as website maintenance, technology, PSAT testing, elementary summer school, professional development, and maintenance. The proposed budget was almost $6.5 million over the FY2014 budget, but now the adopted FY2015 is at $4.5 million over the previous budget.
The board also did a first reading of the Student Code of Conduct. Three changes were noted. Under Conduct Endangering Self or Others, the sentence, “Nothing in this section shall be construed to require a student’s expulsion regardless of the facts of the particular situation.” Other changes are in regard to alcohol and drug products to include electronic cigarettes and ingestible substances.
A first and final reading was made on Virginia School Board Association ( VSBA) policies. It was noted that the vast majority of changes are due to legislative mandates and such changes must be made.
The School Board does not plan to meet in July. Its next regular meeting will be August 11 at 7 p.m. at the County Administration Office, 302 N. Main Street.
