Virginia Association of Area Agencies on Aging Announces Free Fraud Protection Resources

The Virginia Association of Area Agencies on Aging SMP Program is pleased to announce several new resources to help older adults and caregivers protect themselves against fraud.

Virginia SMP is distributing free 2014 -2015 Monthly Personal Health Care Journals to older adults and caregivers in Virginia. The journals are 15 – month calendars designed to help track appointments and health care visits. Virginia SMP is also offering free file folders called “How to Protect Yourself & Your Medicare Benefits”. The folders provide a way for beneficiaries and caregivers to store medical bills and Medicare summary Notices together in one place and include resource information and tips on how to read a Medicare Summary Notice.

One of the best ways to protect against health care fraud and error is to review medical bills and to check suspicious or incorrect charges. The Virginia SMP Program (Senior Medicare Patrol) is a program that provides education, prevention and reporting of health care fraud, waste and error in Virginia.

If you would like to receive e-Fraud Alerts related to scams in our state, we will add you to our list. Phone requests can be made to Virginia SMP at 1-800-938-8885.
