‘Post It’ exhibit planned in Rappahannock

The artists at River District Arts will be participating in the first worldwide Post It exhibit during January.

You might be asking yourself — what is a Post It exhibit?

No, it’s not paintings on those little yellow sticky things.

The Post It exhibit is driven by social media. Everyday during January, a work of art created by one of the River District Arts studio artists will be posted on RDA’s Facebook page and pinned to RDA’s Pintrest Post It board. After the piece is posted, it will then be added to the Confluent Gallery at RDA for public display.

“Essentially we start with a blank slate. Over the course of the month there will be 31 pieces posted on social media for the entire world to see then added to the gallery. The show will end February 9,” according to Jim Allmon, River District Arts Art and Marketing Director.

“Our social media presence has propelled us into the world of Likes, Pins, and Tweets. It is a great way to share all the exciting events and activities that take place at River District Arts and get feedback.”

There are currently 15 artists working in the 10 studios at River District Arts. The artists create art in a variety of styles and media including pottery, oil painting, photography, textile, felt and watercolor. The artists are Jackie Bailey Labovitz, Marilyn Hayes, Jane Forth, Barbara Heile, Marilyn Amore, Mary B. Allen, Dabney Kirchman, Bonnie Dixon, Nina Moore, Sara Adams, Doris Jones, Susan Hornbostle, Nancy Nord, Sally Mello, Jeanne Day and Jim Mello.

Located in a beautifully renovated, accessible building that was a former apple packing plant at 3 River Lane in Sperryville, River District Arts is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 5 year round. In addition to the studios, the facility includes Old Rag Photography, Middle Street Gallery, an Artisan Market featuring Virginia made craft and two exhibition galleries showcasing local and regional art.

Admission is free. For more information, contact Jim Allmon, Art and Marketing Director 703-789-0124 or email jim@riverdistrictarts.org
